Why We Need To Start Embracing Our Quirks & how it will make for the perfect garden

In this day and age, mass commercialization is everywhere. We try to force life into a one-size-fits-all environment. New apartment buildings look exactly like the ones two blocks down, with as few quirks as possible to avoid not being liked. When did we become so afraid of being unique? Why are we so scared of a splash of color or wearing something that might make us stand out?
With AI becoming more common and heavily relied upon (yes, it’s incredibly convenient), there’s less individuality in the world. Sure, AI can learn an impressive amount about you, but what it can’t understand is that the color orange lights you up more than blue. Or that your grandma had a fig tree in her backyard, and every time you pick a fig, it reminds you of holding her basket while she carefully plucked them from the tree as the mockingbirds sang from a distance.

Many people think redoing their backyard is just another task to cross off the to-do list. But to me, it’s an opportunity to create a space that brightens your day every time you step outside. Whether it's stones that feel whimsical, like you’ve walked into Alice's Wonderland, or grass with wildflowers that transport you back to that one time you camped in Yosemite with your dad. Your yard is meant to be your place of comfort and to fill you with joy—using all five of your senses to bring the perfect combination of nostalgia, excitement, and contentment. A place where you can be mindful and reconnect—with yourself, the loved ones you sit around the firepit with, and the nature you invited in—from the hummingbirds to the butterflies that now have a piece of land that provides them with nectar because of your plants.
I’ve always been a little "eccentric" and loved expressing myself through my clothes and surroundings. I remember getting a full-on cheetah outfit for my birthday when I was six, and I wore it with pride until the seams started ripping. But as I grew older, I became aware of what I was “supposed” to like and what I wasn’t. It became confusing, and I played it safe—with my clothes, with the music I said I listened to, even with the stickers I put on my folders. At one point, I couldn’t even tell what I genuinely liked versus what society told me I should like.
That’s when I decided to start paying attention to what truly lights me up. Now, my apartment is full of eclectic vintage furniture and quirky knick-knacks that make me feel good. Honestly, I spend most of my time surrounding myself with items, plants, and clothes that purely bring me joy. Back to basics.

The reason I got into this field—and what keeps me fulfilled—is designing a space perfectly curated for you. Your backyard should be your sanctuary, a place to unplug, slow down, and notice the beauty around you. While much of our day is spent working and putting our unique personalities on the backburner, your yard should be a place where you can reconnect with yourself and embrace your quirks. We’re all a little unusual, and we can’t keep squeezing into this one-size-fits-all lifestyle.
I would love to help you rediscover that "eccentric" side of yourself. And if you’ve forgotten who they are, I challenge you to start paying more attention. Once you're ready to let that side have a little say in how you live your life, give me a call, and we can make your home uniquely yours. After all, home is where you should feel free to let your freak flag fly.
